The Task:
To listen to the stories of a small group of refugee children now living in the UK. To ask questions and use the information in a later workshop (E) to write up the individual stories and formulate a 'Welcome Charter'.

Emma Loffler (Stanley Juniors)
"I was really upset by some of the stories I heard from the refugee children. I didn't think that I would have been able to cope with the sort of things they had to cope with. Some of the stories made me want to cry, like when the (Kosovon) boy's dog was shot in front of him. Some things I heard I thought only happened in fiction stories or a long time ago. I didn't know that you could get onto a plane and take off without knowing where you were going.

My views on refugees changed after I heard the stories because I used to think that a refugee just chose to leave their country. I soon realised all the problems they have to cope with for the rest of their lives. I thought that refugees moved away with their families. I was wrong because if a refugee does move with all of their close family they would be very lucky."
