Introduction

Jack South Korea has about the same number of people as England, but it is about half the size.
Isn't it crowded? Harry
Jack Yes, compared to many places. In fact, South Korea is one of the world's most densely populated countries. What's more, nearly three-quarters of the country is covered in mountains.

CecileLook at this photo of Seoul, South Korea's capital city and home to a quarter of its people. You can see the mountains in the background. How have they used the flatter land so more people can live here?

Cecile People have different lifestyles in South Korea, depending on the shape of the land. See if you can work out some of these differences by dragging the sentences into the right boxes.

The climate is different from the UK too. Although South Korea has four seasons like the UK, temperatures and rainfall through the year are not the same. Harry
Cecile Have a look at the table that shows the rainfall and temperature in Seoul, South Korea and London, UK. Afterwards,
to download some questions to see if you can compare the two climates.

HarrySouth Koreans have found ways to cope with their extremely cold winters. Traditional Korean homes have a clever heating system under the floor called "ondol". Heat from a kitchen fire flows through tunnels to keep the rooms above warm and toasty. In the picture, you can see somebody enjoying his hobby on a frozen lake during the winter. What is he doing?
