Biodegradable
A material that can be broken down naturally with the help of bacteria.

Caste System
The way the Hindu religion divides people into different sections of society or classes.

Colony
A territory or country that is controlled by another country.

Discriminate
Treat someone badly because of their religion, culture, race, gender or disability.

Jute
Plant fibre that is usually made into rope or sacks.

Landfill Site
A big hole in the ground where rubbish is dumped and then covered up once it is full.

Mean
The average for a group of numbers added together and divided by the total amount of numbers e.g. 1,2,2,3,6, 10 (6 numbers) Total is 24 Divided by 6 = 4

Migrate
Move from one area to another to look for work, better living conditions or perhaps to escape danger.

Minimum Wage
The amount that a person needs to earn to live on and support a family.

Mode
The most commonly recorded number in a sequence e.g. 17, 3, 22, 17, 14, 17. In this example, the mode is 17 - it occurs three times.

Monsoon
These are winds that blow across south Asia from the southwest in the summer and from the north-east in the winter, bringing lots of rain with them.

Range
The difference between the lowest and highest numbers in the sequence e.g. 4, 60, 49, 17. The range is between 4 (lowest) and 60 (highest) = 56

Shanty Towns
