Introduction

Jordan, Israel, Lebanon & Syria
Today, there are about 7.5 million Palestinians scattered around the world, but they do not have a country that they can call their own. Nearly four million of them are refugees, and over half are children. The Palestinians originally came from the land that is now called Israel and the Occupied Territories. In 1948, a war between the new country of Israel and its neighbouring Arab countries forced many Palestinians to leave their homes. More than 50 years later, over a million Palestinians still live in refugee camps in Israel, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria. Many older Palestinians still have the keys to their original homes and dream of returning to them one day. To find out more about how the Palestinians live and to take you on a journey through a Palestinian refugee camp, go to the website, www.savethechildren.org.uk/eyetoeye
