Colony
A territory or country that is controlled by another country.

Copra
The dried white flesh of coconuts.

Coral
Tiny sea animals that are often protected by a hard shell. Thousands join together to make a coral reef.

Export
Goods or services that are sold or traded with another country.

GNP
This stands for Gross National Product, which means the amount of money that a country makes in a year. It is usually divided between the number of people in the country to make an average wealth per person.

Habitat
The natural environment (home) where plants and animals normally live.

Hurricane
Severe tropical storms that bring very strong winds and heavy rain. Hurricanes can whip up waves to dangerous heights too.

Infant Mortality
The number of babies out of every thousand born that die before the age of one.

Life Expectancy
How long people are expected to live. This is measured in years.

Phosphates
Minerals that are used to make fertilisers.

Squash
A kind of fruit that is in the pumpkin family. It is usually light orange in colour.
