- Algae

- Stands for 'Less Economically Developed Country'. A country that is often quite poor, has few services and a low standard of living for the people. Most countries in Africa, Asia, South and Central America are LEDC's.
- Life expectancy
- How long people are expected to live. This is measured in years.
- Mangroves
- These are one of the few plants that will grow in salty water. Its roots are above the ground, and trap the leaves and mud floating down the river, eventually forming new land.
- Millet
- A cereal crop that is grown for food.
- Nomadic
- People who move from place to place to find work, food, or water and fresh grass for their animals.
- Savannah
- Tropical grassland with long grasses, bushes and a few scattered trees.
- Sustainable development
- Ways to improve the quality of life for people by using resources carefully. This way, the natural environment and culture of a place can last for generations.
- Tourism
- Travel for pleasure or for learning, often in organised groups. The word, tourism comes from the Hebrew word, 'Tora', which means to study, learn or search.
- Trade Winds
- Winds blowing towards the equator from both sides.
