GDP
This stands for 'Gross Domestic Product', which means the amount of money that a country makes in a year. It is usually divided between the number of people in the country to make an average wealth per person.

Hieroglyphics
A type of writing used by ancient Egyptians that is made up of symbols and drawings.

Infant mortality
The number of babies out of every thousand born that die before the age of one.

Insulation
Padding that is used in the walls and roofs of buildings to keep the heat in.

Life expectancy
How long people are expected to live. This is measured in years.

Nomadic
People who move from place to place to find work, food, or water and fresh grass for their animals.

Oasis
Is a place in the desert where water is found

Pharoah
The name for a King or Ruler in Ancient Egypt.

Refugees
People who are running away from their own country because they are afraid of being attacked because of their race, religion, nationality, political opinions, or because they belong to a particular social group.

Semi-arid
Dry land or climate, with an annual rainfall of 25-60 cm.

Sustainable
Ways to improve the quality of life for people by using resources carefully. This way, the natural environment and culture of a place can last for generations.

Tropic of Cancer
An imaginary line that is north of the Equator, which shows where hot areas are on maps.
