Welcome to the seventh edition of the Global Eye Primary website. Global Eye Primary was launched in September 2000 to complement the Global Eye magazine and website for secondary schools. The five previous editions of Global Eye Primary are still on-line in the 'Back Issue Archive' section of the website.

The CD-ROM allows you to access every edition of Global Eye Primary up to and including Spring 2002 on a stand-alone computer or school intranet system. In addition, the CD-ROM contains every edition of Global Eye Secondary, providing a wealth of images and information for you to download for teaching purposes. Like the website version, the CD-ROM's 'back issue archive' section contains an index that allows users to search for Global Eye coverage of a developing country or development theme.

The aim of Global Eye Primary is to provide interesting, well-illustrated and interactive material about developing countries and global issues to tie in with UK primary curriculum requirements.

Three characters, Harry, Cecile and Jack (a parrot) guide pupils around the website, answering their questions and challenging them to think about a variety of development issues.

Each section of the website uses interactive features, key questions and photos to break down the issues covered into manageable chunks. The sections of Global Eye Primary are:

Tocuaro: Mexican Village CD-ROM and Activity Pack

"Fiesta! Korea" (Franklin Watts)
This is part of a series of books about the festivals and traditions of different countries. It contains concise information about the South Korea's religions and history, and includes recipes, craft activities, songs and stories. A good supplement to Eye on South Korea/People page. "South and North, East and West: The Oxfam book of children's stories" (Oxfam GB and Walker Books)

Focus on Communications:

LCD Making a link with a school in the developing world is an exciting and effective way of addressing the global dimension of citizenship. The registered charity, Link Community Development enables schools to set up links with schools in Africa. The Link Schools Programme currently has 182 pairs of schools in the UK and Ghana, South Africa and Uganda. Jill Rutter: "Refugees - a resource book for primary schools"
(Refugee Council 1998)
This excellent 176 page handbook for education with and about refugees would work well with the Focus on Communications/Languages page and the summer 2001 edition of Global Eye. It includes a vast range of classroom activities, background information, testimonies, and a set of photographs and drawings accompany the resource. "Technology, who needs it?" (Scottish Development Education Centre 1994)
This is an introduction to communications and appropriate technology with teacher's notes and photocopiable pupil activity sheets. It is a good supplement that provides a detailed follow-on to the issues tackled on the Focus on Communications/Digital Divide page. Available from www.worldaware.org.uk (Code PA-57) £6.00.

"Take a Wider View of the World" (Cumbria Development Education Centre) explores how the media portray people and situations in other countries. It is useful introduction to media education, and suggests practical ideas and activities as well as other resources. It provides a supplement to Focus on Communications by evaluating how we receive information. "The Magic of Colour: A Global Approach" (Scottish Development Education Centre)
Through a series of well thought-out activities, this resource aims to explore what it is like to be different; to develop communication, sharing and co-operation skills; to foster self esteem and encourage concern for others; to illustrate the interdependence of people and places. The material is based on an imaginary and allegorical story of two beings who live in different lands, one of which is all red and the other all blue. "Internet: The Impact on our Lives" (Hodder Wayland 2000) is part of the excellent '21st Century Debates' series that would be a valuable addition to any school library.
