Introduction

Have you ever moved home? How did you feel about moving?

HarryImagine that you are selling your home. Draw a poster for an estate agent advertising your home. Add a picture and description of the home telling people why they should buy it.

Some people say that moving home is one of the most stressful experiences in life. But many poorer people are forced to move even when they don’t want to.

Like many cities, good land is in short supply in Cebu in The Philippines. A community called Sobusteha used to live next to a downtown bus terminal in the city where they would sell food and gifts to passengers. But the owners of the bus terminal told them to move because they wanted to add more bus lanes and clean up the place.

Harry Like the Sobusteha community, people in the poorer neighbourhoods of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil work together to improve their lives. Visit Global Eye Autumn 2001 to find out more.

Elsewhere in Brazil, living together can mean more than that. Go to the next page to find out how the Yanomami live together. Jack
