Jack the parrott

JackIn fact, The Gambia is Africa's smallest country. It is 360 kms long and only 50 kms wide at its widest part- about the size of Devon and Cornwall put together. It's almost surrounded by Senegal with the Atlantic Ocean to the West.

HarryWhy is it called The Gambia?
JackBecause the country stretches along the river Gambia, stretching out like a narrow piece of ribbon. Banjul, the capital city is located on an island at the river's mouth, where the river enters the Atlantic Ocean.

CecileGambian FlagThe Gambia's flag is made up of three bands of colour, red, blue and green. The red stands for the sun, the blue for the river Gambia that flows from east to west, and the green for the land. It was adopted when the country became independent from the UK in 1965. February 18th is the National Independence day. This is a special day for all Gambians as they celebrate with a flag raising ceremony, musical concerts and other parties.
