Climate-related disasters often hit the headlines. But once the camera crews have gone, it takes months - even years - for people to get back to normal lives.

In groups, each click on one of the icons, 1-7. Download the file, print out a hard copy, and read about one person's experience of living with climate change today. Afterwards, share your story with the others in your group.

As a group, ask yourselves:

  • Which people seem to be worst affected by climate changes? Why?
  • Over what time period are they likely to be affected?
  • In each case, what choices are available to the people described?

Poorer communities are most vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Roll over the icons to find out why.

Many poorer communities depend on farming for both their food and their livelihoods. They cannot afford expensive solutions to tackle climate change. Instead they work together to adapt their techniques to farm the land sustainably. Here, farmers in Burkina Faso are planting lines of trees to protect the soil and save valuable water.
