" The National Flag dates back to the War of Independence between Mexico and Spain which ended in 1821. The three colours are: green for independence, white for religion and red for union. On the middle white section is Mexico's national emblem, an eagle with a snake in its beak standing on a nopal cactus. The emblem comes from Aztec legend. Mexico has a very long and interesting history and was home to many powerful civilizations including the Olmecs, Mayans and Aztecs."
